RULE NO. 1 IN PURCHASING STAINED GLASS
12. February 2008 by Glassic Magic.
RULE NO. 1 IN PURCHASING STAINED GLASS
The considerations when purchasing a stained glass item for your home’s décor are very different from the considerations you would usually go through when purchasing other items for your home. Generally, your room has a particular theme (i.e.: casual, formal, country, contemporary, and so forth), or a specific color scheme. When choosing non-stained glass items for that room, you try and stay within your room’s theme or color palette. Those rules (generally, but not always) go right out the window when it comes to adding a piece of stained glass to your room. (Given the bright and vivid colors regularly utilized in the manufacturing of stained glass products, it may be very difficult to stay within your color palette anyhow.)
When the light (whether it is a light bulb, the sun, or a candle) is shining through your piece of stained glass artwork, it is going to become the focal point of that room. So you want your stained glass item to have a certain amount of “WOW” power. When lit, you want it to jump out at you.
Which brings me to what I think is the one and only rule when it comes to purchasing a stained glass item: BUY WHAT YOU LOVE !!! Don’t buy it because you like it, buy it because you really love it. You want to say “WOW” to yourself ever time you walk in the room and see it. And believe me, if that’s the way you feel about it, everybody else that walks into that room is also going to say “WOW,” (or even better, “DOUBLE WOW!”). So take your time, shop around, search the web, and find that extraordinary stained glass itemwill augment and elevate your room’s décor to new heights.
